Why Learn About The Holocaust?

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." -- George Santayana, philosopher and critic
-- I agree with Mr. Santayana, but some of us cannot remember because we were very young. So you can't blame us for not remembering. If you don't remember you cant really stop it from happening anyways because you don't remember the symptoms. But by having things to remind us then we do remember how it started and we know how to avoid it from happening again. When i think of this quote, it not only  reminds me of the Holocaust but it also reminds me of 9/11. 9/11 has its very own day where we remember and honor the tragedy, we are remembering so we don't forget and let it happen again. Sadly, it seems we have already forgotten the Holocaust because its already happening again. Down in Darfur, Africa people are getting killed because of their ethnicity. It is the Holocaust all over again! I understand why we must learn about the Holocaust now, it makes perfect sense. The people are forgetting and have already started repeating it. We are learning about the Holocaust so we don't forget and so we can stop it from happening again. Genocide is serious and we need to prevent it. We are the next generation; we need to take charge and keep in mind the Holocaust, 9/11, and even the genocide in Africa. And we can start by remembering, not forgetting, making sure it never happens again.
